The following PDF file attachment (Link above) contains information regarding the filing of Form 990 for taxable year 2009.  

As I am sure you are all aware, the IRS will revoke the tax-exempt status of a council and/or assembly which has not met its annual filing requirement for three consecutive years.  For those who have never filed a Form 990-N, the final deadline is October 15th.  The IRS has provided a list, open to the public, of groups in each state who fall into this category.  http://www.irs.gov/charities/article/0,,id=225889,00.html

If you find your council or assembly on this list, please submit your Form 990-N before October 15th.  If you find your council or assembly on this list but have already submitted your Form 990-N, check to be sure you received a written acceptance of your filing form the IRS.  If not, please call the IRS at 1-877-829-5500 to confirm that your filing was successful.  (Please keep your approval/transmittal receipts in a safe place in your council/assembly file.)  If you find your council/assembly on this list with a different EIN than what you successfully filed with, please notify us so we can ask the IRS to cancel out the additional EIN.
