Fr. Gabriel Assembly, 2162 Fourth Degree Exemplification

On Feb 12th, 2011 the Knights of Columbus, Fr. Gabriel Assembly, 2162 in Crossville hosted a 4th degree Exemplification at the Knights of Columbus hall in Crossville.  33 Knights went through the Exemplification to initiated to 4th degree Knights, including two Priests, Fr. Reed Mungonan from Cookeville and Fr. Charles Donohue from Knoxville. We were fortunate to have our District Master, Bill Wicke and our Vice Supreme Master Skip Gentle in attendance and assisting with the degree.

Monsignor Philip Thoni was the honoree for the Degree.  Msgr. just recently celebrated his 87th birthday and since 2009 Msgr. has been retired and in residence at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Fairfield Glade.

Following the Exemplification, the new Sir Knights and their wives were joined by other Sir Knights and their wives at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Fairfield Glade at the 5:00 PM Mass concelebrated by Pastor John Dowling, Msgr Philip Thoni, Fr. David Carter and Fr. Charles Donohue.

Following Mass, approximately 145 Sir Knights and guests enjoyed a dinner in the St. Francis parish hall.  Certificates were awarded to the new Sir Knights.  Monsignor Thoni completed the evening with many stories from his more than 62 years as a priest, including military chaplain duties in Europe, Japan, Korea, Germany and Vietnam (three times).  In 1991 at the age of 67 he was called back to active duty in Operation Desert Storm.  He retired from the Military as a Colonel.  Now he enjoys playing golf with members of St. Francis of Assisi parish and getting his exercise by swimming.  We are privileged  to have had Msgr as our honoree.
